Egypt's military rulers must end human rights abuses - take action now!

Jabbar Savalan released

We are delighted that Azerbaiajani activist Jabbar Savalan has been released - thanks to everyone in Stratford-upon-Avon and beyond who supported Jabbar at December's Greetings Card Campaign. 20-year-old Jabbar was arrested and accused of drugs possession a day after he used Facebook to call for peaceful protests against the government. Although his release is good news, justice will not have been achieved until Jabbar’s conviction is overturned and the 16 remaining prisoners of conscience in the country are free. Over one million people called for Jabbar’s release - please continue the fight for justice.

Support a bulletproof Arms Trade Treaty

This year we have a once in a lifetime opportunity to save hundreds of lives. In July world leaders will meet in New York to draw up an historic document: the first ever international Arms Trade Treaty. Get it wrong and we may never get another chance to put it right. The final preparatory meeting before the deciding negotiations is just weeks away. We want David Cameron, Ed Miliband and Nick Clegg to publicly commit the UK to leading the way in securing a robust Treaty. But we need your help

Successful lobbying for Afghan women!
Stratford MP Nadhim Zahawi has agreed to press Foreign Secretary William Hague to support the cause of Afghan women when he attends the Bonn Conference on December 5th. The MP was lobbied by representatives of Stratford Amnesty group and the Soroptomist International Stratford group last week. They jointly stressed their strong belief that Afghan women should be given an equal voice in the peace process. Otherwise it is feared that any progress made in the areas of womens' education health and political representation will be lost.
